Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t officially here but the temperatures are definitely increasing and that means it’s time for A/C season. Before the temperatures soar and you’re running your air conditioning unit constantly to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your air conditioning technician to come out and conduct your annual ac maintenance.

In addition to a Precision A/C tune-up, there are a few other ways you can get ready for the cooling season before warmer weather is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the ground around your unit to get rid of branches and foliage that have made their way to your A/C system during the windy winter and stormy spring. Keep the grass trimmed around the unit and prune back any overgrown bushes or vegetation to make sure your A/C system is clear of debris. Clearing the air way can help keep your air conditioning unit running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning will change your home’s basic air filters when they conduct your air conditioning tune-up as part of your regular A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also replace your HVAC air filters in between maintenance visits, and it’s advised that you do so at least every four to eight weeks for optimal performance. If you don’t replace your filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of you and your loved ones and the efficiency of your air conditioning equipment, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your regular air conditioning service. Remember, a clogged filter could actually damage your air conditioner.

  • Block the Sun

Hanging blackout drapes or window shades can help keep your home cooler and avoid the sun from heating up your home. This may also help keep your furniture and floors from fading or suffering from sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t check your smoke and CO detector batteries over daylight savings, now it a great time. Don’t forget to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is working properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your system isn’t turning on and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider investing in a smart thermostat so you can adjust the temperature remotely and save money on your heating and cooling bills.

A yearly air conditioner tune-up service could make your air conditioner up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your energy bills. Call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning today to make sure your cooling equipment is prepared to keep you cool and comfortable through the summer and find out about our spring specials on air conditioning tune-ups.
